Design Director
We’re looking for a proven Design Director who is committed to producing high quality user-focused digital experiences; someone who is charismatic, constructive, and quick-witted. A master of the technical aspects of the business, client-facing and presentation skills.The ideal Design Director is a leader who knows how to communicate, inspire and mentor designers to grow their skill sets and produce best-in-class work. You know that how you communicate is just as important as what you communicate, and that every great piece of creative is and should be rooted in strategic thought. In this position, you must be strategy’s biggest advocate. You’ll need to be hands on, and come fully equipped with the latest and greatest tools and methodologies to present innovative designs and concepts that surpass client expectations.
A day in the life of the Design Director:
- The Strategist: You’ll champion effective concepts designed to fulfill clearly articulated strategic communication objectives. Work with Business Development and Strategy Teams to brief your creative team to research and brainstorm ideas for smart, sexy pitches. Walk the internal team and clients through the latest round of revisions, and communicate the artistic whys and technical hows of our concepts and designs. We always want to wow our clients with the creative, and win them over with the strategy behind it.
- The Overseer: You should be the master of attention to details. A big to-do will be reviewing sketches, storyboards, wireframes and comps to ensure that concepts are translated from paragraphs, bullet points and whiteboard doodles into rich, interactive experiences that are as beautiful as they are intuitive. Your eye and expertise is crucial in providing constructive feedback, insights and direction to Art Directors and Designers.
- The Educator and The Student: Staying in the know is extremely important. Part of your role will be to mentor and train other team members in the use of current and new technologies. As a result, you will need to stay abreast with current graphic design techniques and news within the industry. This requires you to constantly learn and evolve your own design style, in the end resulting in a better and more educated you and others around you.
- The Communicator: You’ll work closely with Account Managers, Project Managers and the Executive Creative Director to juggle multiple projects simultaneously to improve technical and creative performance of the creative team – all the while maintaining and communicating open projects, tasks and milestones. You’ll provide feedback based on design best practices, usability, client needs, objectives and goals, and effectively communicate them to the design team for implementation.
Skills:
- Art Director experience within an agency
- Expert use of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, AfterEffects
- Strong typography, motion graphic and interaction design skills
- Strong understanding of user interface design process and methodology, particularly as applied to web-based applications
- Understanding of HTML and CSS, as well as Flash
- Excellent written and verbal with polished presentation skills
- Solid organizational skills and time management skills
- Working knowledge of web design, online-media, user-experience analysis, JavaScript Libraries, video, audio, and animation are all pluses
